Confessions of a yarn addict!

Hello there!
Well here we are on the last day of May and today I thought I would share some of my current yarny projects with you. Generally I try to restrict myself to one knit & two crochet WIP's (Works In Progress) at a time but this year that has not been happening. I also have two yarny UFO's (UnFinished Objects) sitting upstairs but lets not talk about them...
Of course it goes without saying that I have a blanket on the go. Those of you who remember my Little Squares of Happy baby blanket from last year might recognise these little squares...
Even as I worked on that blanket I decided I needed to make a bigger one for our bed because I am so in love with these colorful, cute little squares! I hadn't really thought about just how many of them it would take though... Each little three round granny measures 2.5", I need thirty of them for each row and probably twenty eight or thirty rows (I am going to see what it looks like when I get that far!) so that works out at somewhere between 840-900 little squares! Well probably by the time I am finished I just might have worked these little cuties out of my system, they are multiplying at a very leisurely pace which is just fine as there is absolutely no hurry on this project at all, it is all about the journey...

But (confession time) I also have another blanket on the go. In mid April I "needed" a more portable project to work on in the car and out and about so I picked this project which has also been on my "to do" list for a while. The yarn was already waiting in my stash so it was quick to get started & maybe I will have it finished by July 4 this year but I am not going to get too fussed about that. A few weeks ago this was where I was at...
Now, mainly due to Chelsea Garden Show TV coverage which it turns out is the perfect accompaniment to ripples, it looks like this...
I felt a little bit guilty starting the ripple blanket because I started this circle cardigan back in March and for a while this was my travelling project. Once the center was done it was a pretty simple pattern for quite a while but now the basic circle is finished & I'm working on the fronts there is a large degree of counting going on! I'm also adapting the pattern somewhat to get the fit I want so I'm working on two sides of the circle at once and this makes it really not suitable for on my lap in the car...
In this pic you can see one of the armholes better...
At the moment it's also quite hard to photograph (it would probably show it's shape better on a hanger but then there are two working balls of yarn attached) & my camera is having another hissy fit about the colors I choose anyway so this is kinda a rough look. Once I have the body finished I will have another try to get better pics...
Then the other week when I finished Little H's sweater I "accidentally" started another crochet project as well as the new knitting project I was allowed... I have no idea how that happened!
My new knitty project has been on the "to do" pile since late last summer. Another toy pattern from the Jean Greenhowe booklet I knitted the wee MacScarecrow boy from, this friendly green monster struck me as the perfect new friend for a little boy I know...
As his birthday was coming up I thought I really should start this for him but when I got this far...
... I realised just how big he is going to be!!! Looking at the picture now I realise just how much he towers over the wee MacScarecrow boy, but of course that never registered before...doh! There is no way he will go in the mail overseas so I think Little H has gained another new friend, but that left me back at square one for a present for my nephew... so while I was pondering that I found myself pulling out some cotton yarn & starting this...
I actually have two copies of this pattern, one from the very first crochet magazine I ever bought four years ago and I had every intention of making this bag back then. It also appears in Cute and Easy Crochet by Nicki Trench, a book I really love which one of my lovely offspring bought me my own copy of last year (much better to drool over your own book than a library book!). I plan on using this bag for knitting WIP's so want it to be practical, sturdy, and big enough to take knitting needles so instead of the expensive DK yarn used in the pattern I am working up the squares with good old Lily Sugar 'n Cream and some Bernat Handicrafter cotton which are both worsted/aran weight yarns. This will mean larger squares so a larger bag which will throw out all the measurements for the lining in the instructions but I am pretty confident I can work that out when I get there.  I picked these seven solid colors and one variegated color for my main color...
& completed four squares with three more on the way...
When I got this far I remembered a Fresh Stitches pattern that I saw a while back would fit the bill for my nephew. So,as I there's a bit more of a hurry for his present, the squares went away & I made another new start!
I will share the finished monster with you when I know he has safely arrived in his new home.
So as the new month starts these are the yarny projects I will be working on. I am hoping the weather here will improve & feel less like March as we head into what should definitely be a summer month! Thank you for visiting me here today, I hope the weather where you are isn't interfering with your plans & you have a lovely week :-)
