July's crafty makes

Hello there!
Today I want to share a few projects with you that I was working on last month. Despite really not feeling well for a lot of July I did manage to get some crafting done, I think my biggest achievement was finally finishing the advent calendar for Little H!
I had a few issues with this (next year when I make an advent calendar for his little brother it will NOT be this pattern!!) but eventually I got there & am pretty happy with the end result. Using a cookie cutter & some yellow felt I added a little padded star to the top & attached a hanging loop behind it like this...
When the Christmas sweeties go on sale I will buy some to tuck in the pockets & then I will deliver it to my son & daughter-in-law at the end of November.
So far I am staying on track with my monthly smalls stitching, here is my version of August's design...
The free chart is available here. I stitched this on 14 count Fiddlers cloth aida with DMC colors, fabric from my stash, & a cute little bee button one of my lovely friends sent me a while ago. It was obviously just waiting for me to stitch this for it's new home!
If you follow Stitchydragon on facebook you probably saw I spent some time at the start of the month in front of the tv watching Wimbledon and working on my Giant Little Squares of Happiness blanket. It was the perfect accompaniment to the tennis & I was really pleased with how it grew in that fortnight! Here it is with eleven rows done, number twelve in progress...
It's starting to look like a blanket now isn't it?!! Still a long way to go of course but I am still loving it & those yarn pegs are working an absolute treat for color planning!! Why didn't I decide to use them right from the start?! I don't think I will ever work a multicolor blanket without them now :-)
I can also update you on another crochet project, my Granny Square bag. Look, I finished making all the squares for it!
I have another more time sensitive crochet project I need to work on this month so I have tucked these little beauties away for now & I will come back & finish turning them into a bag when I can.
Finally I think I am safe to share with you a wee stitchy project that I made for my nieces' birthday. I really wasn't sure what I was going to do for her this year & then the July issue of Crossstitcher magazine caught my eye. I should explain what a rare event this is... over the years I have been cross stitching I used to buy this magazine fairly often but then it changed & became very "trend oriented" & since then I have bought four issues. Three of them have a Belle and Boo design on the cover (follow the link if you haven't met Belle and Boo before), I am a total sucker for that little rabbit!!! Well when I got the magazine home I discovered just how lucky I was that fell for Boo's charms! Inside was the perfect design for my soon-to-be-seventeen-year-old niece...
... a little make-up bag! Here's the front, it was quite a fun stitch until I got to the long stitch bristles on that brush! I stitched it on pink 28ct evenweave from my stash with black DMC thread. I bought a matching black zipper & used some polka dot fabric from my stash to line it & back it with. Here's the inside...
...and here you can see how the backing fabric goes with the rest of it. Well kind of, because the light has been so grey here the pale green really hasn't come out so well! But you get the general idea ;-)
Also in the same magazine was the perfect chart to stitch for my cousin who is getting married in September! It is all done & on it's way to her in Canada now & I'm pretty sure she is too busy organising everything to read this at the moment but just to be on the safe side here is a little sneak peak...
...I will bring you the full pic after her special day.
Thank you for visiting me here today, I hope you have a lovely rest of your week!
